Frank and the Potty Training Journey: A Lesson in Patience for Us Both
Introduction:
Potty training—it’s the milestone every parent looks forward to but dreads at the same time. For us, it was an emotional rollercoaster full of ups, downs, and puddles. But eventually, we got there, and along the way, Frank and I learned more than just how to use the potty.
Story:
When we started potty training Frank, I thought it would be a quick and simple process. I had charts, stickers, and rewards all set up, convinced that this would be smooth sailing. Frank, however, had other plans. He saw the potty as his enemy and diapers as his best friend.
After weeks of accidents and meltdowns, we switched tactics. I let Frank take the lead and decide when he was ready. We made it fun by reading books together while he sat on the potty, and I even bought him underwear with his favorite cartoon characters. Slowly but surely, things started to click. One day, completely unprompted, he ran to the bathroom on his own. We threw the biggest potty party ever, complete with balloons, and Frank was thrilled.
Takeaway:
Potty training is a marathon, not a sprint. Letting your child take the lead and being patient makes all the difference. Every child learns at their own pace, and that’s perfectly okay. Celebrate the small victories, because for them, it’s a huge achievement.
